ALGIERS – Acting on direct orders from the Moroccan “Makhzen” regime, Morocco’s Ambassador to France, Samira Sitail, continues to implement a hidden agenda in desperate attempts to tarnish Algeria’s international image. The most recent incident involved a group of Moroccan agitators tasked with disrupting the Algerian pavilion at the 2026 Paris Fair.

During a showcase of traditional Algerian attire—which includes heritage internationally recognized by UNESCO—Moroccan individuals carried provocative banners to disturb the event. The atmosphere became highly charged and nearly escalated into physical clashes before security intervened. Despite the provocations targeting their cultural symbols, Algerian participants maintained their composure, and the agitators were ultimately expelled from the pavilion.

The appointment of Sitail—a former journalist with no prior diplomatic or political experience—comes as the Moroccan lobby’s influence in French public opinion and decision-making circles wanes in the face of Algeria’s growing presence. This shift is attributed to the “new dynamism” of Algerian diplomacy and a new generation of diplomats who have altered the political equation in France and across Europe.

Upon taking office, Sitail’s first major move was convening an extraordinary meeting with all 17 Moroccan Consuls General in France, along with heads of Moroccan religious, sports, and cultural associations. The meeting was notably attended by André Azoulay, advisor to King Mohammed VI and a key figure in the Moroccan lobby. Sources from Algeria Gate revealed that the primary objective was establishing a roadmap to rebuild influence and break Rabat’s isolation following the “Morocco-gate” scandal in Europe.

Ambassador Sitail, who holds dual Moroccan-French citizenship, reportedly instructed the Moroccan lobby to:

Launch public relations campaigns with influential French figures in finance and media to improve the Kingdom’s image.

Monitor and track the activities of Algerian associations operating in France.

Encourage Moroccan consuls to mobilize the diaspora and organize demonstrations in support of Morocco’s “territorial integrity” as a counter to Pro-Polisario rallies in Paris and Marseille.

Leverage networks to influence French politicians, local officials, artists, and celebrities to serve the Kingdom’s policies, particularly regarding the Western Sahara conflict and strained relations with Algeria.

Algeria News Portal:On World Press Freedom Day (May 3), the National Organization of Algerian Journalists reaffirmed its commitment to a media landscape supported by laws, enabling the press to defend Algeria’s stability and image against fake news. The organization emphasized that freedom of opinion and a responsible press are inseparable pillars of democracy, and that journalism is both a constitutional right and a national mission rooted in truth, impartiality, and responsibility.

The statement highlighted the press as a guarantor of sustainable development and institutional strength in the “New Algeria” under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. It called for improving journalists’ socio-professional conditions through better wages, social protection, and protection from discrimination, while fostering a legislative environment that safeguards their dignity.

Training was stressed as essential for professionalism, with calls for periodic programs aligned with international standards to strengthen digital skills without compromising accuracy or impartiality. The organization urged alignment with Algeria’s digital transformation strategy, enhancing media platforms to keep pace with modern demands.

It also encouraged journalists to promote national sovereignty and amplify Algeria’s narrative globally, supporting the country’s development path, economic projects, and regional integration. The press was praised for defending national causes, particularly Palestine and Western Sahara, and for its role as a united professional family committed to truth, ethics, and Algeria’s enduring principles.

Algeria News Portal: In a televised interview with representatives of the national press, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated that the situation in Mali has been heading in a direction that can only lead to further instability, expressing his regret over the worrying developments the country is witnessing.

The president stressed that Algeria adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, affirming that his country “has not and will not interfere” in Mali, despite the deep historical ties between the two nations. He added that Algeria has always been a “brother” to Mali and will remain so regardless of the circumstances.

In a related context, Tebboune clarified that the use of force is not a solution to the Malian crisis, expressing his conviction that Malians are capable of overcoming their ordeal on their own. At the same time, he affirmed that Algeria is ready to provide assistance to help de-escalate the situation, if requested to do so, without any ulterior motives or conditions.

He also sent a direct message to those who still believe in the fraternal ties between the two countries, stating that Algeria “is present and ready to help.” He revealed that indirect contacts exist between the two sides, noting that the shared history and destiny of Algeria and Mali are inescapable. In concluding his remarks, he stated that while Mali’s current leader has not spoken ill of Algeria, his inner circle and those around him have attacked and insulted Algeria.
