ALGIERS – Since the beginning of April 2026, the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) sector in Algeria has reached two significant milestones. These advancements come under the framework of the program “Social and Solidarity Economy at the Service of Sustainable Economic Inclusion for Youth,” a strategic initiative aimed at empowering the next generation of Algerian entrepreneurs.

Building a National Roadmap The first major step involves the launch of a participatory process to develop a National Strategy for SSE. This process focuses on identifying priority issues and defining the primary axes for development. By formulating initial key orientations, the program seeks to create a structured and future-proof strategy that aligns with Algeria’s broader economic goals.

Strengthening Networks and Capacities The second milestone focuses on the “on-the-ground” impact by enhancing the capacities of SSE project leaders and social entrepreneurship actors. The ultimate goal is to formalize a National SSE Development Network, ensuring that social innovators have the resources and connections needed to scale their impact.

Networking for Success In line with these objectives, two networking and consultation workshops were held in Algiers on April 8 and 13, 2026. These sessions brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including program beneficiaries and implementation partners, to foster collaboration and exchange expertise.
A Strong Partnership This ambitious program is funded by the European Union in Algeria, in a strategic partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to fostering an inclusive economic environment where young Algerians can thrive through socially responsible business models.
