Algeria and Saudi Arabia seek to strengthen economic cooperation and investment ties

Algeria Gate: Algeria and Saudi Arabia are continuing to strengthen their bilateral relations, with the aim of expanding economic cooperation and development opportunities. A diplomatic meeting was held in Riyadh on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, reflecting the two countries’ determination to consolidate their partnership.

Algerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Cherif Walid held talks with Abderrahmane Al-Rassi, a senior official at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for multilateral international affairs and overseeing economic and development issues.

The discussions focused on the state of bilateral relations, prospects for cooperation and several issues of mutual interest. The two officials also addressed regional and international developments.

Strengthening economic partnership

The meeting comes amid closer economic ties between Algiers and Riyadh, particularly in investment, energy and industrial development.

The two countries are seeking to explore new opportunities to diversify trade and encourage partnerships between their economic operators.

Algeria and Saudi Arabia therefore aim to consolidate their longstanding relations and open up new avenues for cooperation amid significant economic transformations across the region.

This diplomatic momentum could help strengthen exchanges and pave the way for future joint projects between the two countries.

Algeria remains Turkey’s sole LNG supplier as imports fall 18%

Algeria remains Turkey’s sole LNG supplier as imports fall 18%

Algeria Gate: Turkey’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports fell by 18% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2026, while Algeria remained the country’s sole supplier during the period, according to data published by the Energy Research Unit and reported by Attaqa on October 20.

Turkey imported around 620,000 tonnes of LNG between July and September, down from 760,000 tonnes during the same period in 2025. The decline reached nearly 23% in September alone.

Algeria maintains its LNG supplies to Turkey

Algeria supplied the entire volume of LNG imported by Turkey during the third quarter, with shipments remaining stable at around 620,000 tonnes compared with the same period last year.

The deliveries included 136,000 tonnes in July, 272,000 tonnes in August and 214,000 tonnes in September.

The supplies are supported by a long-standing agreement between Algeria’s Sonatrach and Turkey’s BOTAŞ, which dates back to 1988. Under an agreement extended in 2023, Turkey continues to purchase the equivalent of 4.4 billion cubic metres of Algerian gas annually through 2027.

In May 2026, Turkey’s energy minister announced discussions on renewing the agreement and potentially increasing annual supplies to between 6 billion and 6.5 billion cubic metres.

US remains Turkey’s leading LNG supplier in 2026

Despite Algeria’s position as Turkey’s sole LNG supplier during the third quarter, the United States remained the largest supplier over the first nine months of 2026.

US LNG deliveries reached approximately 3.92 million tonnes, accounting for 51% of Turkey’s total imports during the period. Algeria ranked second with 2.24 million tonnes, representing 29%.

Turkey’s total LNG imports reached 7.73 million tonnes during the first nine months of 2026, marking a slight 0.9% decrease compared with the same period in 2025.

The country continues to rely on imported gas to meet much of its domestic demand while working to diversify its supply sources. Ankara is also exploring ways to increase LNG imports and strengthen its supply arrangements with Algeria.
