Algeria Gate: Algeria’s energy sector has been allocated a proposed budget of 123.4 billion dinars for 2027, with most of the funding intended for electricity and gas connection projects, electricity bill support in eligible southern provinces and High Plateau regions, and the development of new and renewable energy sources.
Energy and Renewable Energy Minister Mourad Adjal presented the proposed budget and the sector’s main priorities on Tuesday, October 20, before the Finance and Budget Committee of the National People’s Assembly. The presentation took place as part of the review of the 2027 Finance Bill.
The session was chaired by committee president Abdelhafid Brima and attended by Minister of Relations with Parliament Nadjiba Djilali.
Adjal said President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had placed meeting the basic energy needs of the population and the national economy among his priorities, including improving living conditions by extending electricity and gas networks to isolated areas.
According to the minister, Algeria’s electricity connection rate has reached nearly 99 percent, covering more than 12.8 million customers. The natural gas connection rate stands at approximately 80 percent, with more than 8.7 million customers.
The proposed budget will primarily finance electricity and gas connection projects, support electricity bills in the eligible regions of the South and High Plateaus, develop new and renewable energy sources, and strengthen energy management.
The allocation forms part of the proposed 2027 Finance Bill.
