Algeria Strengthens Diaspora Services with Opening of Consulate General in San Francisco

Algeria’s Secretary of State in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, has embarked on a working visit to the United States, marked by the official inauguration of Algeria’s new Consulate General in San Francisco.

During his first stop in the American city, Chaib presided over the opening ceremony of the diplomatic facility, in the presence of the Consul General and several representatives of Algerian community organizations active within the consular district.

The establishment of this new consular office reflects Algeria’s commitment to improving services for its citizens abroad. Authorities aim to bring administrative services closer to the diaspora while ensuring more efficient and higher-quality consular assistance. The move also represents another step in expanding Algeria’s global consular network.

On the sidelines of the inauguration, Chaib visited the various departments of the consulate, where he assessed operational conditions and reviewed the range of services provided to Algerian nationals. The consulate’s jurisdiction covers 19 states across the western region of the United States, highlighting its strategic importance for the Algerian community in the area.

The visit underscores Algeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with its diaspora and enhance institutional support mechanisms for nationals living abroad.

Algerian Technical Delegation Conducts Field Visit in Chad for Trans-Saharan Highway Project

N’Djamena – The Algerian technical delegation currently visiting Chad, in preparation for the launch of two sections of the Trans-Saharan Highway, carried out a field inspection today, Tuesday, at the designated project sites, according to a statement from the Ministry of Public works and Basic Infrastructure.

The purpose of this field visit was to finalize the project evaluation process. It allowed the delegation to assess the current state of the sites, the nature of the upcoming works, and to identify potential technical and logistical challenges. The visit also included a study of the geographical and topographical characteristics of the locations, their alignment with existing studies, and exchange of views with representatives of the relevant institutions on ways to improve performance and ensure deadlines are met.

The Algerian delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, the public works company Cosider, the National Company for Public Works (SNTP), and the National Authority for Technical Control of Public Works (CTTP).

This mission to Chad comes in execution of instructions from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who, during the latest Council of Ministers meeting, ordered Algerian institutions to undertake the construction of two sections of the Trans-Saharan Highway on Chadian territory.

FROM MANAGEMENT TO INFLUENCE:HOW THE IMF’S RECORD FIGUERS PLACE ALGERIA IN THE ZONE OF ECONOMICS LEVERAGE

FROM MANAGEMENT TO INFLUENCE:HOW THE IMF’S RECORD FIGUERS PLACE ALGERIA IN THE ZONE OF ECONOMICS LEVERAGE

‏The latest economic reports issued by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for 2026 are not merely dry statistics; they represent a “birth certificate” for a new economic era in Africa. With Algeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reaching the $317 billion threshold, the Algerian state confirms it has moved past the “recovery” phase to effectively enter a stage of “sophisticated economic dominance.”

Algeria: The Leading Power in the Maghreb and Fourth in Africa

A Leap in Numbers: Beyond Coincidence
According to the World Economic Outlook (April 2026), Algeria did not just achieve a massive figure; it secured an upward revision of its growth rate to 3.8%. This rise is not accidental; it is the fruit of economic sovereignty driven by diversifying exports beyond hydrocarbons and stimulating local and foreign investment through bold, incentivizing legislation.

With this achievement, Algeria officially sits at the throne of the Maghreb region’s economies and secures its position as the fourth-largest power on the African continent in terms of nominal GDP. More importantly, the IMF revealed that in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), the total output is approaching the $941 billion mark, reflecting the true capacity of the national economy to meet its citizens’ needs and create sustainable wealth away from exchange rate fluctuations.
Why Global Institutions are Betting on Algeria
This international praise stems from several core factors supporting Algeria’s strong position

Major Strategic Projects: The launch of projects like the “Baladna” dairy production plant, the Gara Djebilet mines, and the expansion of the national railway network are all engines that have made the $317 billion mark a “station” rather than the “destination.”
Conclusion: The Sovereignty of Economic Decision
Reaching this milestone amidst complex global geopolitical conditions is a clear response to those who doubted the state’s ability to break free from dependency. Today, Algeria is not building a consumer economy; it is establishing an industrial and commercial fortress whose roots extend from the Mediterranean to the heart of Africa.
It is the “Real Growth” Algeria—the one that is no longer content with being a partner, but has become the engine driving development in the region.

Inflation Control: Algeria has successfully reined in inflation, bringing it to low levels (2.9%) compared to its economically volatile regional surroundings.

Financial Stability: Thanks to a positive trade balance and growing reserves, Algeria has become an “oasis” of financial stability at a time when major countries are struggling with suffocating debt.
