The CEO of the Saidal Group, Mourad Belkhelfa, received the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Algeria, Mark A. Shapiro, along with a delegation from the American laboratory Abbott, on Tuesday at Saidal’s “Constantine 1” production site.

According to a statement issued by the Saidal Group on Wednesday, discussions during the meeting focused on the “Influvac” flu vaccine as part of the ongoing partnership with Abbott. The US delegation expressed its deep appreciation for this strategic cooperation, praising the high quality of Saidal’s infrastructure and the efficiency of its workforce.

For his part, Belkhelfa provided an overview of the Saidal Group’s ambitious projects, including its cell therapy program, which reflects the group’s strong commitment to innovation and advanced medical research.

Both parties reaffirmed their shared desire to enhance cooperation between Saidal and Abbott, contributing to the development of Algeria’s pharmaceutical sector and ensuring the provision of innovative health solutions for its citizens.

Algeria’s Health Ministry Says Hantavirus Risk Remains Low Following WHO Alert

Algeria’s Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that it is nearly controlling progress linked to a reported cluster of Hantavirus cases detected abroad a foreign cruise ship outside the country, following an alert released by the World Health Organization WHO.

In an official statement, the ministry clarified that coordination with national and international health authorities to evaluate the situation and ensure continues epidemiological surveillance.

The ministry stressed that a series of preventive and organizational measures have already been implemented to strengthen health vigilance and anticipate any potential developments linked to the virus, which is commonly transmitted through contact with infected rodents or their droppings and secretions.

According to the latest information provided by the WHO, Algerian health authorities affirmed that the current level of risk in Algeria remains low and limited, noting that the outbreak is confined to its identified setting and that no direct epidemiological link has been established at the national level.

As part of its preparedness strategy, the Ministry of Health also announced the establishment of a specialized central committee tasked with activating proactive preventive measures aimed at responding to any possible health threat related to the virus.

The ministry sought to reassure the public stressing that the current situation does not warrant concern or alarm, while urging citizens to continue observing standard preventive measures, including maintaining cleanliness in homes and storage areas, avoiding contact with rodents, ensuring proper ventilation of enclosed spaces, and using protective equipment when cleaning potentially contaminated areas.

The Health Ministry further called on citizens to rely exclusively on official sources for accurate and verified information, reaffirming its commitment to keeping the public informed of any developments through official communication channels in the interest of protecting public health.

Algeria maintained its second-place ranking on the list of the largest gas exporters to Spain for the month of April 2026, accounting for 34.1% of Madrid’s total imports, with exports reaching 9.79 terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas.

According to data from the specialized Energy platform, Algerian gas exports to Spain witnessed a decline from 11.37 TWh in March 2026 and 9.87 TWh in April 2025, down to 9.79 TWh during April 2026.

The United States topped the list of the largest gas exporters to Spain in April 2026 for the fourth consecutive month, representing 35.1% of total imports.

Spain imported approximately 10.07 TWh of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) last month, an increase from 11.94 TWh in March 2026 and 14.46 TWh in April 2025.
