Algeria Gate: Algerian authorities announced a major breakthrough in containing the forest fires that have swept across several provinces (wilayas) since July 8th. Civil Protection reported that 97% of the blazes had been brought under control by Saturday evening, underscoring the effectiveness of the large-scale response on the ground.

The communications officer of the Directorate General of Civil Protection, Lieutenant Karim Ben Fahssi, stated that 1,838 fires have been completely extinguished out of the 1,850 recorded. This result was achieved thanks to the continuous mobilization of Civil Protection units, supported by detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA), agents of the Directorate General of Forests, and all State services.
For its part, the Ministry of National Defence confirmed that PNA units are continuing their operations to ensure the complete extinction of the remaining fire outbreaks. Significant human, ground and air resources remain mobilized, including Beriev Be-200 water-bomber aircraft and Mi-26 helicopters, which will stay engaged until the situation is fully under control.
