The reasons invoked by Algeria for severing its diplomatic relations with the Emirates

Algeria Gate: The day after the shock announcement of the rupture of diplomatic relations between Algeria and the United Arab Emirates, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed, in a communiqué, the motives that led to this unprecedented decision.

Exhausted restraint in the face of behaviors deemed hostile

According to the communiqué, Algeria states that it showed, in the face of the multiplication of behaviors it qualifies as provocative or hostile on the part of the United Arab Emirates, great restraint and a high sense of responsibility. The text specifies that, in a spirit of full respect for the principles governing relations between states, Algiers spared no effort to draw the attention of the Emirati side and warn it against the serious consequences to which these behaviors, judged regrettable and unjustified, could lead.

Despite these repeated warnings, the ministry continues, the United Arab Emirates continued to persist in these behaviors, to the point of reaching a threshold that Algeria now considers unacceptable and untenable within the framework of relations between two sovereign states, and which could not remain without a response.

A 48-hour ultimatum addressed to the Emirati ambassador

It is on this basis that the Algerian government announced, this Thursday, September 10, 2026, that it had decided to sever its diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, after considering that it had exhausted all avenues likely to preserve the bilateral relations. According to the communiqué, the Emirati ambassador was received that same day at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was officially notified of the content of this decision, as well as a 48-hour deadline to comply with it.

Algeria thus presents itself as the first Arab and Muslim country to sever its diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates.

A broader list of grievances circulated on social media

Beyond the official communiqué of the ministry, a series of more detailed grievances circulated widely on social media in the wake of this announcement, without all of these accusations being taken up word for word in the official communiqué. Among the elements put forward: attempts to spread chaos in Algeria, support and financing alleged for the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylie (MAK), classified as a terrorist organization by the Algerian authorities, attempts at interference in the country’s internal affairs and influence on the outcome of elections, military and financial support for Morocco in the context of its arms acquisitions from Israel, as well as attempts at destabilization on the country’s borders through the financing of militias and armed organizations in the Sahel region. Some of these publications also evoke the existence of informal coordination between the Emirates, France, Morocco, and Israel, as well as political and financial support for individuals wanted by Algerian justice.

It should be emphasized that this more extensive list of grievances, while circulating widely in the wake of the official announcement, has not been formally taken up, in these terms, by the communiqué of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has not, at this stage, been the subject of independent verification.

Another element advanced by Algeria Gate

Another element, this time advanced by the site Algeria Gate, adds a further dimension to the account of this crisis. According to these sources, after a similar first operation carried out in Paris, Abu Dhabi would this time have mobilized intermediaries in Spain with the aim, according to the site, of coming to the aid of a businessman on the run, convicted by Algerian justice.

The reasons invoked by Algeria for severing its diplomatic relations with the Emirates

Still according to Algeria Gate, the Emirates would have tasked the businessman Nasser bin Thaaloub, presented as close to Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, advisor in charge of the Emirati national security apparatus, with providing direct support to a former Algerian businessman, sentenced in absentia to twenty years in prison in a corruption case. The mission entrusted to him would consist of deploying, in Spain, political, media, and financial lobbying aimed at obtaining the release of Ayoub Aissiou, presented by the site as a fugitive who embezzled Algerian public funds and despoiled citizens through fictitious real estate projects.

The website also evokes an Algerian response that would aim to be “without weakness” in the face of what it qualifies as hostile campaigns orchestrated from Abu Dhabi, and suggests that the diplomatic rupture could be accompanied by unprecedented economic sanctions targeting the presence of Emirati companies in Algeria.

These pieces of information, relayed by a single source, have to date been the subject of no official confirmation, neither on the Algerian side nor on the Emirati side, and must be read with the caution that is required in the face of accusations of this gravity targeting a person named by name.

Algeria Bets Everything on Artificial Intelligence: 50,000 Experts to Be Trained by 2030

Algeria Gate: Algeria is displaying strong ambitions in the field of artificial intelligence. As part of its national strategy dedicated to this sector, the country has set an ambitious goal: to train no fewer than 50,000 artificial intelligence specialists by 2030 in order to strengthen its national human capital and possess the skills needed to accompany the accelerated technological transformations on a global scale.

A national strategy structured around training and research

This objective was confirmed during a meeting dedicated to the implementation of the national artificial intelligence strategy, during which the authorities also prepared the launch of research projects within the framework of the National Research Program (PNR), according to the priorities defined by this strategy.

This approach is part of a broader will to strengthen Algeria’s presence in the field of artificial intelligence by combining scientific research, training, and the development of digital infrastructure, while encouraging the adoption of intelligent solutions in the country’s various sectors of activity.

An ambition that goes beyond the sole field of AI

This target of 50,000 AI experts is linked to broader ambitions in the digital domain. The higher education sector aims, according to ministerial statements, to train 30,000 state engineers specialized in artificial intelligence by 2030, while the authorities in the information and communication technologies sector are targeting the training of 500,000 specialists in this field over the same period.

The country can already rely on a solid base: more than 57,000 Algerian students are currently following training programs in artificial intelligence across 74 master’s programs throughout the country, and a first graduating class has even completed, between September 2023 and June 2026, a fully dematerialized “zero paper” university curriculum.

Potential hailed by an American institute

These efforts are beginning to be noticed beyond Algeria’s borders. A report by the American New Lines Institute recently designated Algeria as a potential candidate for leadership in artificial intelligence in North Africa, noting that the country ranks among the top five African nations in terms of scientific publications and has researchers ranked among the top 2% most cited in the world.

The same report anticipates rapid growth in the Algerian artificial intelligence market, which is expected to rise from around $500 million in 2025 to nearly $1.7 billion by 2030, driven by the expansion of AI uses in strategic sectors such as agriculture, health, and energy, as well as by the desire to diversify exports beyond hydrocarbons. The institute further notes that Algeria’s geographical position, at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, places it in a good position to become a regional hub for artificial intelligence, as part of the country’s broader transition from an essentially energy power to a rising regional technology hub.

Tamanrasset–In Guezzam: Algeria Prepares a New Railway Link of More Than 400 km

Tamanrasset–In Guezzam: Algeria Prepares a New Railway Link of More Than 400 km

Algeria Gate: The first study of the route of the railway project linking Tamanrasset to In Guezzam was at the center of a working meeting held in the wilaya of Tamanrasset, under the chairmanship of Wali Mohamed Bouderaa, in the presence of the directors of the sectors concerned and several wilaya officials.

During this meeting, representatives of the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of the Realization of Railway Investments (ANESRIF) presented a briefing devoted to the project, in particular in the presence of the technical advisor and head of the agency’s studies department, Cherifa Taghmout, as well as ANESRIF officials and representatives of the various services concerned.

The presentation covered the various components of the project, its objectives, and its expected impacts on the economic and social development of the region. The future line is notably expected to contribute to strengthening the transport network, improving access to the Greater South, and better circulation of people and goods.

Participants also examined the proposals and studies relating to the planned route, while addressing the various technical aspects linked to its realization. Several data points will need to be taken into consideration in order to determine the most suitable path.

Representatives of the sectors concerned were thus able to present their observations and concerns regarding the various proposals, in order to enrich the preliminary study and integrate the realities on the ground before proceeding to the next stages.

With a length of more than 400 kilometers, the future Tamanrasset–In Guezzam railway link is of strategic importance for the development of transport infrastructure in the far south of Algeria.

Beyond transport, the project is expected to accompany the economic dynamism of the region, facilitate exchanges, create new conditions favorable to investment, and contribute to the opening up of southern territories.

This new infrastructure is thus part of the strategy for developing the Algerian railway network aimed at better connecting the southern regions to the main national infrastructures and strengthening economic integration and sustainable development.
