Algeria Gate: Israeli airline “Arkia” resumed its direct flights to its Moroccan settlement yesterday, Wednesday, after a halt of roughly three years, at a time when the fallout from the military escalation in the Gaza Strip continues to intensify.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the company relaunched the direct air route between Tel Aviv and Marrakech, with the first flights taking off according to the official flight schedule announced at Ben Gurion Zionist Airport.
In a statement carried by the Israeli channel, Arkia said the resumption of flights marks an important step for Israeli travelers wishing to head to Marrakech, following a period in which direct flights had been suspended.
This move once again puts the spotlight on the Moroccan-Israeli normalization track, which the regime continues to reinforce across a number of fields, despite the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip and the large number of Palestinian casualties it has claimed.
The timing of the flights’ return also raises questions and criticism in the region, particularly given the continuing war on Gaza and the wide-ranging humanitarian and political fallout it has left behind.
