Pan-African Parliament Opens New Term with Institutional Dialogue with South Africa

The Bureau of the Pan-African Pariament PAP, chaired by Fateh Boutbig, held a virtual meeting with representatives from the South African Parliament, including Thandi Modise. This marks the first bilateral meetings held by the Bureau of the seventh legislative term since its election.

The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen existing cooperation as the Pan-African Parliament enters a new phase. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing coordination and the development of joint action mechanisms.

The PAP Bureau praised the support and facilities provided by South Africa over the past twenty years, expressing appreciation for its role in hosting the continental parliamentary institution.

For her part, the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa congratulated the members of the new PAP Bureau on their election. She emphasized that the electoral process was conducted in accordance with the African Union’s principle of fair, regular, and predictable regional rotation, ensuring balanced representation of the continent’s five regions as well as gender balance.

ALGIERS – In a significant move to deepen Mediterranean energy ties, the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Mr. Karim Ibrahim Ali Badawi, commenced an official working visit to Algeria today, Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

The visit comes at the invitation of Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, signaling a renewed commitment to synchronizing the energy strategies of two of Africa’s largest hydrocarbon producers.

Minister Badawi arrived at the Presidential VIP Lounge of the Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport, where he was formally received by Minister Arkab. The Egyptian delegation underscores the operational nature of this visit, featuring top-tier industry leadership including:

Mr. Salah El-Din Abdel Karim: CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

Mr. Walid Loutfy: Chairman of PETROJET.

Senior executives and officials from the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum.

According to official statements, the primary objective of this diplomatic mission is to activate and expand the frameworks of joint cooperation. Discussions are expected to focus heavily on:

Strategic Partnerships: Enhancing the existing relationship between Algeria’s national oil company, Sonatrach, and its Egyptian counterparts.

Investment Exploration: Identifying new ventures in upstream and downstream sectors, particularly within the oil and gas industries.

Technical Cooperation: Leveraging the expertise of firms like Petrojet in infrastructure and energy services.

The U.S. Army announces the disappearance of two American soldiers in Morocco!

The United States Africa Command annonced on Sunday that ywo American solidiers taking part in the African Lion 2026 exercises went missing near the Cap Draa training area, close to the Moroccan city of Tan Tan, on Saturday.

It added that U.S. and Moroccan forces, along with other units involved in the maneuvers, have launched coordinated search and rescue operations, deploying land, air, and naval resources.

In a statement, the command indicated that the incident remains under investigation and that search efforts are still ongoing.
