Algeria possesses immense potential in the energy sector, positioning as a massive power reservoir currently in standby mode. The country’s production capacity has reached significant level, exceeding 25,000 megawatts, creating a substantial energy surplus beyond domestic consumption.
The strategic focus is now shifting towards mobilizing this surplus through large-scale energy transition project. This includes the development of green hydrogen and solar energy to transform Algeria into a primary energy storage and supply hub for Europe. Central to this strategy are electricity interconnection projects, particularly with Italy and across the African continent, aimed at exporting power rather than relying solely on raw gas sales.

This “standby” status represents a transitional phase as the country prepares for a major leap in clean energy exports. By leveraging its existing infrastructure and vast renewable potential, Algeria aims to become a vital provider of clean electricity to the European market.
