ALGIERS – FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced that joint initiatives between the global football governing body and Algeria will soon be unveiled, reflecting a mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation and developing the sport.

The FIFA chief expressed his great satisfaction with his visit to Algeria, noting that he was received by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Infantino described the President as “a great man for Algeria and a true football expert,” stating that their discussions covered the current state and future prospects of Algerian football.

“We exchanged views on the reality and horizons of the game here,” Infantino added, highlighting the strategic importance of Algeria within the global football community.

The FIFA President further noted that he congratulated President Tebboune on the national team’s qualification for the World Cup finals, describing it as a “major achievement.” He emphasized that the Algerian squad possesses exceptional potential, enabling them to deliver a standout performance and create surprises during the competition.

Infantino revealed that he extended an official invitation to the President of the Republic to attend the upcoming World Cup. In the same context, the FIFA chief pointed to the existence of “incredible talent” in Algeria. He confirmed that joint efforts are underway to invest in training centers and academies, alongside a strategic shift toward supporting school football, which he considers a fundamental pillar for youth development and the sport’s growth.

Concluding his statement, Infantino reiterated that joint initiatives between FIFA and Algeria will be announced soon. He took the opportunity to congratulate the Algerian authorities, the government, and the Algerian Football Federation (FAF)—led by its president, Walid Sadi—for their dedicated efforts in modernizing sports infrastructure and stadiums, stressing that the future of Algerian football looks “bright and promising.”

Algerian Gymnasts Head to Cairo World Cup

Algerian Gymnasts Head to Cairo World Cup

The Algerian national artistic gymnastics team will compete in the Cairo stage of the 2026 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, set for April 3–6 in Egypt. The delegation features three athletes, led by Olympic champion Kaylia Nemour, alongside teammates Siham Hamidi and Louna Hamamès, according to the Algerian Gymnastics Federation.

This competition marks Algeria’s final international test before the African Gymnastics Championships in Cameroon later this month. Spotlight will be on Nemour, who is expected to renew her rivalry with China’s Qiu Qiyuan, following their clash in the Paris 2024 Olympic final where Nemour triumphed on the uneven bars.

Nemour arrives in Cairo with strong momentum, having secured gold on the uneven bars in Baku and silver medals on the balance beam in both Baku and Cottbus. Meanwhile, Hamamès continues to build experience at the elite level, reflecting the steady rise of Algerian gymnastics internationally.

The Cairo stage also comes after adjustments to the FIG calendar, with final apparatus rankings now based on each gymnast’s best three results. For Algeria, the event is a pivotal step in maintaining competitive form and preparing for continental challenges.
