Algeria welcomes US delegation from Kansas and Lawrence in gesture of friendship

Algeria Gate: Under the auspices of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria is hosting a delegation of American citizens from the state of Kansas, in a visit aimed at strengthening the human and cultural ties between Algeria and the United States.

The visit reflects Algeria’s appreciation for the hospitality and civilised conduct previously demonstrated by the residents of Lawrence and Kansas City. President Tebboune praised their attitude and instructed preparations for a twinning agreement between the American city of Lawrence or Kansas City and the Algerian city of Tipaza.

The American delegation is also expected to enjoy a varied programme of cultural and tourist activities across Tipaza, Algiers and Ghardaïa, offering its members an opportunity to discover Algeria’s historical heritage, cultural diversity and hospitality.

The visit has attracted attention from American media, with The Kansas City Star describing the visit by a delegation from Lawrence to Algeria as a historic event.

It also comes shortly after Algeria and the United States celebrated the 231st anniversary of the signing of their Treaty of Peace and Friendship, highlighting the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

Lawrence Mayor Brad Finkeldei expressed his gratitude to the Algerian hosts, saying: “We are extremely grateful to our Algerian hosts for their hospitality and friendship.”

He added that the delegation was bringing with it feelings of gratitude and goodwill from the city of Lawrence.

The visit represents a meaningful opportunity to deepen people-to-people relations and build lasting cultural connections between Algeria and the United States.

According to a report by Energy Research Unit published on Sunday, November 8, Algerian LNG shipments reached 1.03 million tonnes in October, compared with 680,000 tonnes in September, representing an increase of approximately 350,000 tonnes.

This marks the second time Algerian LNG exports have exceeded the one-million-tonne threshold in 2026, following May, when shipments reached 1.02 million tonnes. October’s performance also approaches the 1.09 million tonnes recorded during the same month in 2025.

Europe remains Algeria’s main market

European countries accounted for a significant share of Algerian LNG imports in October, with France emerging as the leading buyer, followed by Spain and Türkiye.

The increase comes as European countries seek to secure additional gas supplies ahead of winter, amid concerns over lower storage levels compared with previous years.

Algeria strengthens its position in international energy markets

The latest figures underline Algeria’s continued importance as a supplier of natural gas to European markets, through both LNG shipments and trans-Mediterranean pipelines.

Its geographical proximity to Europe and established export infrastructure provide the country with strategic advantages as demand for energy rises during the colder months.

With October recording its strongest monthly LNG export performance of 2026, Algeria is entering the final months of the year with renewed momentum in international energy markets.
