Spain Speaks Out: Hands Off Ceuta, Melilla, and Our Sovereignty!

Spain Speaks Out: Hands Off Ceuta, Melilla, and Our Sovereignty!

Algeria Gate: Massive popular demonstrations took place in several Spanish cities in denunciation of official Moroccan statements concerning the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, in a scene that reflects the growing rejection within Spain of what sectors of Spanish public opinion regard as a Moroccan attempt to reopen the file of the two cities and place them once again on the agenda of relations between Rabat and Madrid.

These protests followed statements by two Moroccan ministers that triggered a wave of anger in the Spanish street, particularly since the file concerns two cities that Spain considers part of its sovereignty, which led the Moroccan claims to be read in Spain as a direct assault on national sovereignty.

The anger was not confined to the street. Madrid quickly raised the level of its response. The Spanish Foreign Ministry announced its categorical rejection of any different Moroccan position regarding the status of Ceuta and Melilla, affirming that the two cities are fully Spanish and that any threat to them is treated as a threat to Spain.

Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles also affirmed that Ceuta and Melilla are “fully Spanish” and that any threat affecting them represents a threat to Spain, in a stance that reflects the transition of the issue from a mere political controversy to a matter directly linked to sovereignty and security.

Amid the escalation, Spanish diplomacy moved directly after official sources reported that Madrid had informed Rabat of its categorical rejection of the Moroccan demands and that the Moroccans must bear responsibility for this escalation.

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares also visited Ceuta on August 11th, reiterating the Spanish government’s commitment to Spain’s sovereignty over the two cities and its support for them.

Spain Speaks Out: Hands Off Ceuta, Melilla, and Our Sovereignty!

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez today denounced the statements of the two Moroccan ministers regarding Ceuta and Melilla, describing them as unacceptable. Speaking before the plenary session of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Sánchez said that Madrid had categorically rejected the statements attributed to the two Moroccan ministers.

The Spanish official revealed that his government had summoned the Moroccan ambassador in Madrid on August 21st to inform her of its position on the two statements, explaining that the step was taken in the context of an official rejection of what Madrid considered unacceptable positions regarding the two cities. He finally affirmed that Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish cities forever.

These developments come in the wake of the irregular-migration crisis that Ceuta experienced at the end of July, during which tens of thousands of Moroccan migrants crossed into the city, making the Ceuta and Melilla file more sensitive in relations between Madrid and Rabat.

Thus, the statements of the two Moroccan ministers went from an attempt to put the two cities back on the dialogue table to a spark that ignited the Spanish street and pushed the Spanish government to harden its discourse towards Rabat, with a forthcoming visit by the Spanish King Felipe to the cities of Ceuta and Melilla expected.

Felipe VI expected in Ceuta and Melilla: a royal visit that risks rekindling tensions with Rabat

Felipe VI expected in Ceuta and Melilla: a royal visit that risks rekindling tensions with Rabat

Algeria Gate: The King of Spain, Felipe VI, is expected to travel soon to Ceuta and Melilla, two Spanish cities located on the North African coast. Announced by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, this visit does not yet have an official date.

The trip comes in a particularly sensitive context. Ceuta has been going through a serious migration crisis for several weeks following the massive arrival of tens of thousands of people from Morocco. The situation has provoked strong mobilisation of the local population and significant political pressure on Sánchez’s government.

For Felipe VI, a visit to Ceuta and Melilla would also carry major symbolic weight. Since ascending the throne in 2014, the sovereign has never officially visited these two cities. His trip would therefore constitute a first and would come nearly twenty years after the visit of Juan Carlos I in 2007, which at the time provoked a diplomatic crisis with Morocco.

In Madrid, the government assures that this visit must be organised at the moment judged opportune and in coordination with the Royal Household. But in Rabat, the trip could be perceived as a provocation, given the Moroccan position on the two territories. Spanish media are already highlighting the risk of a new strain between Madrid and Rabat.

Beyond protocol, the king’s visit could thus become a real test for Spanish-Moroccan relations.
In a context marked by the migration crisis and tensions surrounding Ceuta and Melilla, the slightest gesture by the Spanish Crown is liable to take on a considerable diplomatic dimension.

Werner Rügemer: “Algeria has the resources to become a genuine political power”

Werner Rügemer: “Algeria has the resources to become a genuine political power”

Algeria Gate: Algeria holds substantial assets that could significantly enhance its standing on the international stage, said the German economist, Werner Rügemer, writing for Algeria Gate.

Its abundant energy and mineral resources, coupled with a pivotal geographic position straddling Africa and the Mediterranean, offer powerful levers of influence.

The real challenge, Rügemer argues, is no longer simply to export oil and gas. It is to convert these natural riches into industrial capacity, technological advancement and lasting diplomatic weight.

In a global landscape shaped by the rise of the Global South and the shifting of traditional alliances, Algiers enjoys considerable room for manoeuvre. By diversifying its partnerships, especially with emerging powers, Algeria could further consolidate its economic independence.

The path ahead is clear: Algeria must evolve from a resource-rich nation into a genuine power capable of turning its natural wealth into strategic influence and sovereign strength.

Smuggled Algerian Wealth Mobilized in €5M Campaign to Stall Aissiou’s Extradition in Spain

Smuggled Algerian Wealth Mobilized in €5M Campaign to Stall Aissiou’s Extradition in Spain

Algeria Gate: In a new episode of the saga of the swindler and one of the most wanted men by Algerian justice, Ayoub Aissiou has turned his prison cell into a room for dirty deals and launched from there a media lobbying campaign with a budget estimated at 5 million euros. The goal is to buy the positions of French newspapers, writers and politicians, and to use every possible form of pressure on the Spanish judiciary in an attempt to escape his inevitable fate.

According to media sources, Ayoub Aissiou is using the money of Algerians that was smuggled out of the country to buy media consciences and pay hired pens in Paris, such as Le JDD and Le Point, which belong to the empire of Vincent Bolloré, the far-right figure steeped in narratives hostile to Algeria.

Analysts, opinion writers, journalists and public figures are all being courted by the fugitive from Algerian justice through attractive bribes in exchange for supportive articles and positions that are presented to public opinion as independent views.

As soon as he was arrested, networks of influence in France launched a campaign to polish the image of a fake businessman and present him as a political opponent, through French lobbies working to pressure Madrid and obstruct his extradition to Algeria. The aim is to salvage his reputation and portray him as a political victim by deploying lobbying tools and allocating a huge budget estimated at 5 million euros for communications agencies, consultants, disguised advertisements, statements and petitions signed by personalities and intellectuals.

Former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls entered the fray to call for his defense, raising many questions about the motives behind this stance and whether financial interests lie behind it, especially given talk of Valls’ financial difficulties and debts. When recalling the financial situation Valls declared while he was Prime Minister, an article published by Le Figaro in June 2014 indicated that his net wealth did not exceed 93,150 euros after deducting his debts, while his loans amounted to around 200,500 euros and his liquidity was very limited.

The Algerian News Agency had previously revealed that the French propaganda machine is preparing to launch a new media campaign against Algeria through the channels TF1 and France Télévisions, mobilizing their media resources to promote the case of Ayoub Aissiou, who is wanted by Algerian justice and has been detained in Barcelona since July 25th on the basis of an international arrest warrant. Aissiou is being prosecuted before the Algerian courts on charges related to financial and commercial offences, including violation of legislation on the movement of capital to and from abroad, illicit transfer of currency, money laundering and concealment of proceeds linked to corruption, among other charges.

It is worth recalling that sources from Algeria Gate confirmed in previous articles that the Zionist-Moroccan lobby is working to present Ayoub Aissiou as a businessman, whereas he is in reality a professional smuggler and money launderer who usurped the title of businessman. The Spanish judicial authorities can verify that all the investment projects for which he obtained bank loans were never completed, while the funds have vanished to this day; whether the project to rehabilitate the iron factory in M’Sila, the milk production and cattle import project in Djelfa, or the stone-fruit trees project in the same province. The only projects that were partially completed were real-estate promotion apartments that were distributed to a number of officials and their children who later ended up in prison.
