“The Honorable Sergey Cheryomin, Minister of the Government of Moscow and Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, has affirmed the Russian capital’s full commitment to supporting the Wilaya of Algiers. This partnership aims to refine and optimize Algiers’ strategic development framework as it advances toward its 2035 horizon.”
During his visit to Algiers for the ‘Moscow Days’ and the Russian-Algerian Business Forum, Mr. Cheryomin praised the city of Moscow, highlighting its assets and expertise. He stated that these resources could be placed at the disposal of the Algerian capital to successfully implement its Master Plan for Development and Urban Planning (PDAU) leading up to the 2035 horizon.
“Moscow is one of the most dynamic global metropolises in its transformation. It is internationally recognized for its success in the digital field, applied to housing, social services, education, and public health. We utilize Artificial Intelligence extensively,” he stated.
According to Mr. Cheryomin, Moscow is also among the world leaders in the speed of metro construction, as well as in digital solutions.
While reiterating his readiness, as well as that of the city of Moscow, the Russian official indicated that the Wilaya of Algiers is interested in infrastructure development, particularly its transport infrastructure.
“We can implement Moscow’s expertise and vast experience according to the needs of the Wilaya of Algiers,” he said.
“Algeria is the Gateway to Africa.”
Regarding the competitive advantages of the Algerian market for Russian capital, Minister Cheryomin underscored Algeria’s strategic position as the ‘Gateway to Africa.’ He highlighted the nation’s substantial capital investment in pivotal sectors, specifically citing the national railway expansion, the modernization of port infrastructure, and integrated urban development. Mr. Cheryomin further noted that these large-scale infrastructure projects hold significant appeal for major Russian economic entities, many of whom already possess a robust continental footprint through their collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).”
