Algeria Gate: Spanish authorities have arrested a Moroccan migrant on suspicion of deliberately starting a large wildfire on the outskirts of Barcelona that burned approximately 54 hectares of forest.
The blaze forced the evacuation of dozens of residents and required the deployment of numerous firefighting vehicles and personnel to bring it under control.
According to reports, when interrogated by Spanish security services and confronted with evidence and documented eyewitness testimonies, the suspect claimed he had heard voices ordering him to set the fires.
Spanish media indicate that ongoing investigations are expected to uncover further details about the incident. Questions have also been raised in some quarters about whether the act may have any connection to Moroccan intelligence services, though no such link has been established.
The case continues to develop as Spanish authorities pursue their inquiries.
