Algeria Gate: The Sahrawi president, Brahim Ghali, called on the United Nations Secretary-General to take the situation in Western Sahara seriously, warning against the consequences of the absence of a firm international response to what he describes as illegal Moroccan occupation.
In his message, the Sahrawi leader considers that the lack of concrete measures by the UN and the international community risks contributing to the prolongation of the conflict and the entrenchment of the status quo in the disputed territory.
Brahim Ghali also stressed that the current situation could have significant repercussions on regional peace and security, as well as beyond the region.
For the Sahrawi president, the UN therefore cannot remain passive in the face of developments. He calls for international action that would advance the settlement of the Western Sahara conflict under the auspices of the United Nations.
This warning comes at a time when the Sahrawi issue remains one of the main sources of tension in the Maghreb and continues to weigh on regional stability.
