Algeria’s Secretary of State in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, has embarked on a working visit to the United States, marked by the official inauguration of Algeria’s new Consulate General in San Francisco.

During his first stop in the American city, Chaib presided over the opening ceremony of the diplomatic facility, in the presence of the Consul General and several representatives of Algerian community organizations active within the consular district.

The establishment of this new consular office reflects Algeria’s commitment to improving services for its citizens abroad. Authorities aim to bring administrative services closer to the diaspora while ensuring more efficient and higher-quality consular assistance. The move also represents another step in expanding Algeria’s global consular network.

On the sidelines of the inauguration, Chaib visited the various departments of the consulate, where he assessed operational conditions and reviewed the range of services provided to Algerian nationals. The consulate’s jurisdiction covers 19 states across the western region of the United States, highlighting its strategic importance for the Algerian community in the area.

The visit underscores Algeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with its diaspora and enhance institutional support mechanisms for nationals living abroad.

Algeria News Portal: The municipality of Ashdod in southern Israel announced on Tuesday that it was opening shelters as a precautionary measure amid fears of a possible Iranian military response, coinciding with escalating security tensions in the region.

The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the decision comes as part of efforts to raise internal readiness, noting, citing the municipality, that the move does not imply any change in army instructions but rather falls under precautionary measures in anticipation of any sudden developments.
