President Tebboune reaffirms Algeria’s commitment to non-alignment principles and calls for greater unity among member states to confront global challenges

Algeria Gate: President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed Algeria’s firm commitment to the principles and objectives of the Non-Aligned Movement, calling for the strengthening of unity among the Movement’s countries and the intensification of consultation and coordination among them, so that they can play a more effective role in facing the challenges and rapid transformations that the international system is witnessing.

President Tebboune reaffirms Algeria’s commitment to non-alignment principles and calls for greater unity among member states to confront global challenges

This came in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Khalida Boufedeche, during the high-level commemorative meeting held on the occasion of the sixty-fifth anniversary of the first founding conference of the Non-Aligned Movement.

President Tebboune stressed that commemorating this anniversary embodies the shared commitment of the member states to the Movement’s goals and principles, and their collective determination to strengthen cooperation and act as a unified and effective bloc in the international system to confront various global challenges.

He emphasized that the current international situation requires the revival of the Movement’s founding principles, foremost among them respect for the sovereignty of states and the integrity of their territories, non-interference in their internal affairs, the protection of mutual interests, and the promotion of multilateral cooperation, in line with the spirit of the United Nations Charter and the principles of Bandung and the Belgrade Conference of 1961.

In this context, he highlighted that these principles have renewed importance today, in light of the return to the use of force as an alternative to diplomatic solutions, the decline in the effectiveness of the collective security system, as well as the continued inability of the international community to put an end to policies of faits accomplis, the logic of force, selectivity, and double standards.

President Tebboune affirmed that Algeria considers non-alignment “not a position from the past nor a fleeting diplomatic dream, but a renewed sovereign choice imposed by the profound transformations the world is undergoing,” stressing that sovereignty is indivisible and that the application of international law and respect for international legitimacy cannot be subject to selectivity or double standards.

He addressed the tragic situation experienced by the Palestinian people, amid the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and the serious violations of international and humanitarian law, affirming that these developments place the international community before a historical responsibility that cannot be postponed.

In this regard, he called on the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement to adhere to their principles and act as one unified bloc, and to strengthen their role as the largest international alliance after the United Nations, in order to contribute to achieving peace, security, and stability at the international level.

The Algerian President also highlighted that the Non-Aligned Movement, which includes more than 120 countries, represents an influential international force and a collective voice capable of defending just causes, upholding the voice of truth, and placing international legitimacy above all other considerations.

On this occasion, he recalled Algeria’s historical role in supporting liberation movements and championing just causes in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, reminding of the initiative of the late President Houari Boumediene during the Non-Aligned Countries Summit held in Algiers in 1973, aimed at establishing a new international economic order that would free Third World countries from the constraints of neo-colonialism.

In concluding his speech, President Tebboune renewed Algeria’s conviction of the need to strengthen integration, consultation, and interconnection among the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, and to mobilize all capabilities and energies to serve common interests, allowing the Movement to move forward as a unified bloc that controls its own decisions and looks toward a more prosperous and stable future.

From Newsrooms to Asylums: Paris Reacts to Tebboune’s Death Penalty Directive

From Newsrooms to Asylums: Paris Reacts to Tebboune’s Death Penalty Directive

Algeria Gate: Following President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s announcement that the death penalty would be applied to those who deliberately set fires, the French propaganda machine went into a state of hysteria over a sovereign decision that disrupted the calculations of the forces of evil working to set Algeria ablaze and destabilize it.

French television channels and newspapers agreed to filter their vocabulary and choose a specific description for the perpetrators of these crimes, adopting the word “Pyromane”, which means a person suffering from an obsession or pathological compulsion to start fires, instead of describing them as deliberate criminals or people involved in criminal acts.

So have French media outlets suddenly turned into psychiatric clinics, or is this linguistic choice an attempt to reframe the image of the perpetrator in the mind of the audience and shift the issue from the realm of crime, motive, responsibility and punishment into the realm of illness, sympathy and diminished capacity?

It is striking that BFMTV, CNews and Le Figaro all used the same description, which raises serious questions about the background of this media convergence, how innocent these platforms are of deliberately steering the narrative, who stands behind these media mouthpieces, and whether there are political circles in Paris seeking to influence public opinion and reshape its view of what is happening in Algeria.

When the description “deliberate arsonist” is replaced by “someone obsessed with starting fires”, it is not merely an innocent linguistic choice; words are not always neutral. They can become tools for reframing the event and changing the position of the perpetrator in the audience’s consciousness: from a criminal who bears responsibility for a deliberate act to a sick person who deserves sympathy and perhaps a lessening of his responsibility.

It is worth noting that Algeria has partially resumed the application of the death penalty after 33 years since the last judicial execution.

The Algerian president did not rule out that criminal acts may lie behind the massive fires that broke out in a number of Algerian provinces, affirming that the relevant services are conducting the necessary investigations.

In the wake of this, Tebboune decided to take unprecedented measures by applying the death penalty to those who deliberately start fires. This was decided during a meeting he chaired last Sunday devoted to taking the necessary measures to deal with the aftermath and effects of the recent fires that affected a number of provinces in Algeria.
