German Foreign Minister, Jhann Wadephul, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the United Nations-led process in Western Sahara. He expressed Germany’s full support for the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in facilitating negotiations aimed at reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution between the two parties to the conflict- the Polisario Front and Morocco.

According to a report by the Sahara Press Services SPS, the German official emphasized that any final settlement must guarantee the right to self-determination for the people of Western Sahara, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions.

Support for Mediation Efforts
During his visit to the Moroccan capital, Rabat, Wadephul expressed Germany’s readiness to contribute to facilitating consultations between the two parties within the UN framework. He reiterated that his country’s diplomatic and economic positions will remain strictly aligned with international legality.
A Unified Diplomatic Stance
This statement follows remarks made two days ago by German Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Katrin Deschauer. She stressed that the negotiating process under UN auspices is of paramount importance, as it remains “the only path toward achieving a just, permanent, and mutually acceptable political solution.”
