Lecourtier, exposing France and Morocco about the Western Sahara!

Algeria News portal: The resurfacing of remarks from Christophe Lecourtier, former French ambassador to Morocco, has revived debate over what role Paris really plays in the Western Sahara row. Lecourtier openly admitted that France was the first country to promote Morocco’s autonomy plan as a “solution” to the Sahara issue, adding that France exploited its position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council to promote Rabat’s plan.

Many have circulated his comments on social media about France’s links with Morocco previously kept under wraps. Lecourtier’s recognition that the French played a role in the autonomy narrative undermines decades worth of official rhetoric that characterised France as a neutral actor in the conflict.

As attention returned to France’s military intervention against units of the Polisario Front in the 1970s, the controversy intensified, a detail missing from the diplomatic dialect. As many observers point out, these two statements contradicts Paris’ claim of neutrality . The renewed debate raises important questions on France’s credibility in the region. Moreover, it premises France’s own responsibility for this conflict which is continuing to deny the Sahrawi people their internationally recognized right to self-determination.

Moroccan Makhzen Maneuvers to Buy Influence at TV5 Monde Amid Backlash Over Corruption Diplomacy

Moroccan Makhzen Maneuvers to Buy Influence at TV5 Monde Amid Backlash Over Corruption Diplomacy

ALGIERS – The Moroccan Makhzen regime is pushing forward with suspicious maneuvers seized control of the line of TV5Monde. Rabat is leveraging millions of euros in budget injections to secure a seat on the board of directors of the global Francophone media conglomerate.

Despite fierce opposition from prominent figures within the network, alongside scathing reports from media and human rights organizations, TV5Monde recently announced that Morocco has become the first African nation to initiate procedures to join the network’s circle of government funders.

This move aligns with TV5Monde’s Strategic Plan (2025–2028). Under this plan, the six current funding governments (France, Switzerland, Belgium/WalloniaBrussels, Canada, Quebec, and Monaco) decided to open the network’s capital and governance to other African Francophone nations holding membership in the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).

Led by Morocco’s Ambassador to Paris, Samira Sitail, Rabat’s sudden financial push has sparked deep concerns within the media landscape.

Buying Influence and Whitewashing a Tarnished Image Established in 1984, TV5 Monde is the world’s largest French-speaking public television network, broadcasting to nearly 200 countries and territories and reaching hundreds of millions of viewers. As an official operator of La Francophonie, it is governed by a charter that strictly mandates editorial independence, cultural diversity, and democratic values.

However, Morocco’s entry as a financial backer raises serious questions about its hidden motives. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Morocco will inject substantial financial contributions into the network’s budget in exchange for a seat on the board of directors—a position that would grant it leverage over programming and geopolitical orientation.

Observers view this step as a desperate attempt by the Makhzen regime to buy a new virginity and whitewash its international image. Morocco’s global reputation has been severely tarnished by what experts call “diplomacy of corruption and bribery,” famously highlighted by espionage scandals and corruption cases in Europe. Furthermore, the regime continues to face intense international scrutiny over its involvement in transnational drug trafficking, a deteriorating domestic human rights record, and ongoing violations in the occupied territory of Western Sahara.

While TV5Monde insists that Morocco’s integration remains strictly conditional upon absolute respect for the network’s charter of editorial independence and professional ethics, the controversial deal continues to trigger warnings of a direct threat to the broadcaster’s integrity.

Moroccan Intelligence Shifts Tactics: From Diplomatic Bribery to Direct Sabotage in France

Moroccan Intelligence Shifts Tactics: From Diplomatic Bribery to Direct Sabotage in France

It appears that Moroccan foreign intelligence DGED has shifted its tactics in executing “dirty operations” amid the ongoing confrontation with Algeria. After the failure of bribery and the regional and international buying of loyalties, and following the unsuccessful policy of demonizing Algeria and its state institutions through proxy media campaigns, new patterns are emerging.

Several strong indicators now point to the fingerprint of Moroccan foreign intelligence in a series of incidents across France. These include the recent disruptions at the Paris Fair and the arson attack on a renowned Algerian restaurant in the heart of Paris- an establishment known for promoting Algerian and Arab mercenaries for “dirty task” the latest being the controversial figure Hicham Aboud.

Reports suggest that under orders from Yassine Mansouri, head of Moroccan foreign intelligence, instructions were relayed to the Moroccan Ambassador to France, Samira Sitaïl, to deploy a group of Moroccan operatives to disrupt the Algerian pavilion at the Paris Fair 2026. Video footage documented individuals raising Moroccan flags and chanting provocative slogans near the Algerian space, leading to verbal altercations that required security intervention to prevent further escalation.

Only days later, the Algerian restaurant “Numidia” in Paris’s 20th arrondissement was targeted in an act of suspected arson, according to preliminary data. French authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and identify those involved.

These incidents, which bear Moroccan fingerprints, have sparked widespread outrage on social media. Activists argue that these are not isolated events but rather part of a systematic campaign targeting everything representing Algeria in France. This coincides with escalating media and digital campaigns that involve significant funding and protection for Algerian fugitives—individuals wanted by the Algerian judiciary with alleged links to the “MAK” terrorist organization.

Morocco : Renewed Allegiance to Marshal Lyautey Sparks French Protectorate Debate

Morocco : Renewed Allegiance to Marshal Lyautey Sparks French Protectorate Debate

PARIS – In a move that highlights the historical narrative of Morocco remaining a French protectorate
since 1912, a high –profile ceremony was held in Paris to honor Marshal Hubert Lyautey
is widely regarded as the founder of the modern Moroccan state, the designer of
its national flag, and the ultimate authority in the appointment of its
monarchs during his decades-long rule.

In the French capital, before Lyautey’s tomb and in the presence of Moroccan officials, diplomats, and
associations, rituals described as a “renewal of loyalty and
allegiance” were performed for the former Resident-General.

The Architect of Modern Morocco Marshal Louis Hubert Lyautey (1854-1934) is considered the
actual engineer of the contemporary Moroccan state. He served as the first
French Resident-General (1912-1925) following the signing of the Treaty of Fez.
During his tenure, he structured the country’s administration and oversaw the
urban design of major cities, including Casablanca and Rabat.

A Lasting Legacy The French Protectorate, imposed on March 30, 1912, under
Sultan Abdelhafid, officially lasted until 1956. However, critics argue that
its core tenets remain in effect today. General Lyautey spent half of that era
as the primary architect of Moroccan diplomacy and statehood.

Despite the official end of the
protectorate and Lyautey’s passing, the structural decisions made under his
supervision endure. Notably, it was General Lyautey who established the current
Moroccan flag and relocated the capital from Fez to Rabat—symbols and
administrative frameworks that continue to define the Moroccan state to this
day.
