Algeria News portal:New York (United Nations) — UN Secretary-General António Guterres has renewed his call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a permanent ceasefire in Sudan, which has been ravaged by armed conflict for more than three years.

The situation in Sudan is getting worse by the day. A recent message from Guterres on social media highlighted the devastating impact of the war on civilians, especially women and children, who are suffering the most. It’s heartbreaking to see a country being torn apart like this, and something needs to be done to stop the violence and protect the innocent people caught in the middle. The war is causing unbearable pain and suffering, and it’s crucial that we find a way to resolve the conflict and bring peace back to Sudan.

Civilians are paying an unconscionable price, with women & children suffering most.
I repeat my call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, a sustainable ceasefire, and a Sudanese-led, civilian, democratic transition.
He stressed that the fighting needs to stop right away, and a lasting peace agreement is necessary. He also believes that the people of Sudan should be in charge of creating a democratic government, without outside interference, and that this process should be led by civilians.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in an armed conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions. This conflict is now in its fourth year and it’s having a devastating impact. The United Nations says it’s the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. Over 12 million people have had to leave their homes and almost half of the population doesn’t have enough food..
